Porsche is working hard to find its way to a future where all of its cars are electric. However, the company has not said that the famous 911 sports car will ever have to run on electricity alone; a gas-powered form will always be available if the brand can handle it. We’ve known for a few years, but not completely, that the German automaker was going to make the famous Porsche 911 electric. Now it looks like we know when the new Porsche 911 hybrid will be shown to the public for the first time. Motor1 thinks that the new 992.2 version of the 911 will come out early this summer. It will have a non-plug-in six-cylinder hybrid engine.
The headline of the story confirms that a hybrid 911 will be shown off in 2024: “Porsche’s next big step forward will come in 2024 when they release a highly sporty hybrid for a few 911 model line derivatives. It will look a lot like hybrids used in racing.” Frank Moser, who is in charge of both the 911 and 718 model lines, says, “The high-performance hybrid continues the innovative development of the 911 drive. “Drivers gain from this whenever they speed up. So, we have technology ready for when rules about emissions change in the future. “Sporty hybridization will be possible for the Porsche 911 going forward,” says page 116 of the study.
A comment for a picture of something buried under a sheet also makes it sound like the hybrid’s engine will have six cylinders. Up until now, Porsche has only sold plug-in hybrids. However, the next 911 is likely to be a non-plug-in version so that it can be lighter and fit more into the smaller 911 body.
An all-wheel-drive system will be made up of a 48-volt starting motor and a dual-clutch transmission that will power the front wheels of the hybrid 911. There is a small lithium-ion battery pack behind the front seats that powers the motor. This data comes from Motor 1. There are reports that an electric GT2 RS model could make up to 700 horsepower. This is one of a few new hybrid trim options that are on the way. We don’t know if other trims will be available in the first hybrid combinations, but we don’t think they will be the base model because the performance is expected to get better.
We were told at first that the hybrid 911 would come out in late 2025, but it could come out this summer or later in the year. That being said, it might not be for sale for a while. To be safe, the hybrid might still be shown off later; this year, only the better 992.2 version was shown off.
