Turbo power is the same as the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse

  • The base 2024 Chevrolet Traverse model, the LS, starts at $38,995 and can be bought at dealers right now.
  • The all-new crossover now comes with the Z71 package, which is designed for off-road use. It comes with 18-inch wheels and a special drive mode called Terrain.
  • A 2.5-liter turbocharged I4 engine with an eight-speed automatic gearbox is now standard. The power output is 328 horsepower, while the torque output is 326 pound-feet.

The three-row SUV market has changed a lot since the Traverse came out in 2009. In the past 15 years, the three-row SUV has taken over the minivan market, making the Wagon Queen Family Truckster less useful. At the same time, more and more crossovers, like Chevrolet’s Tahoe and Suburban, have taken a squared-off shape to look like body-on-frame cars.

The updated third-generation 2024 Traverse has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with less volume than the previous 3.6-liter V6. This engine makes more power and gets better gas mileage. Chevy also hid its Super Cruise hands-free driving technology under the surface of this Traverse to give buyers a taste of what’s to come.

The 2.5-liter turbo-four engine in every Traverse will make 328 hp and 326 lb-ft of torque by 2024. With all-wheel drive, this power goes to either the front wheels or all four tires. An eight-speed automatic gear is linked to the engine. The 3.6-liter V6 engine from General Motors has been in production for almost 20 years. The new, smaller mill has 18 more horsepower and 60 more pound-feet of torque.

Chevy still says that the 2.5-liter I4 with front-wheel drive will get 20 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg total. This number drops to 19/24 mpg, or 21 mpg overall, when AWD is used.

Compared to the V6, the FWD gets two more miles per gallon in the city, and the AWD gets two more miles per gallon in the city. On the highway, though, the AWD V6 did better than the four-cylinder, so your new AWD Traverse should get about one more mile per gallon! Remember the small power boost. Let’s talk about how it feels instead of the numbers. In conclusion, the I-4 with the compressor is fine. Because it has a twin-scroll turbocharger, it makes more power at low speeds, and the torque curve is pretty flat.

The 4,792-pound Traverse moves forward with the help of a new four-cylinder engine that makes just the right amount of noise from the intake and exhaust. The eight-speed reacts well to power, even with only minor changes. On the back of the Traverse steering wheel are buttons, but they’re only used to limit the number of gears that can be used in the low range.

Traverse buyers who pay close attention might notice that the new model moves faster than the old one. People who buy Traverse cars might be more interested in the basic and available driver technologies. Every Chevy Traverse will have adaptive cruise control, blind-zone steering assistance, rear cross-traffic braking, and automatic braking for the back. It also helps you stay in your lane, has automatic emergency stopping, and can read traffic signs. Some grades of the 24 Chevrolet Traverse now come with GM’s hands-free Super Cruise system, which makes the ride more luxurious.

The RS-badged Traverse comes with Super Cruise, which works just as well on other GM cars (it was first introduced on Cadillacs). The automatic lane changes will be strange for many people, and it might take them a while to get used to them. The system changed lanes even though it was going the same speed as the car in front of it, and it did this sometimes with more force than was needed. Even with these small problems, the technology works really well and makes switching between hands-free and hands-on driving very easy.

The Traverse now comes with the Z71 package for the first time. The 18-inch Goodyear Wrangler tires on the Z71-equipped Traverse have a size of 265/65R18. Some of the new off-road features include skid plates under the Traverse, a slightly higher off-road suspension, and a twin-clutch AWD system. The Z71 has a terrain drive mode that holds the stop and gives you control of the throttle to help you climb and descend hills.

In the end, it will last longer and can handle some light off-roading. But if you want to walk on difficult trails, there might be better choices. It’s more comfortable to walk or bike to your cabin or KOA camping spot on gravel paths and walks.

The robust sheet metal looks very different from the previous Traverse, but the basic shape is still the same. The wheelbase of the 2024 Traverse is 121 inches, down from 120.9 inches in 2023. This makes it about an inch shorter total (204.5 inches). The ’24 Traverse’s track width is about the same as that of its model.

But the Traverse does get wider all around. The ’24 model’s width, without the mirrors, is now 79.5 inches, about an inch wider than it was in 2023. There is a little more hip room in the cabin now, which should make car trips more pleasant.

All versions of the Traverse have three rows of seats. The third row’s three seats are fine for little kids but not for people over six feet. The captain’s chairs in the second row can be turned around to make it easy to get to the third row. The Traverse can fit eight people and has a second-row seat that can be folded down. We did not test it.

The front of the house has many nice-looking features. The usual 11.2-inch digital driver display and 17.7-inch media touchscreen are very close to each other and take up a lot of space on the dashboard. A column shifter highlights this part of the screen, which also makes room in the center console. Some drivers might need help finding the headlight switch, but the tablet works well overall.

Also, the driving mode selection choice for the front-view camera may get blocked when it’s active. This can be fixed by navigating out of the camera view. It also works perfectly when Apple CarPlay takes over the screen.

The Traverse is Chevrolet’s best choice in a market with many other cars. When famous cars like the Ford Explorer, Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride, and Toyota Grand Highlander are all competing, it’s hard to tell them apart.

Still, the Traverse is likely to get a bigger share of the market because it has more standard features, like a big screen and the choice of Super Cruise. Some adventurers might be tempted to go to a Chevrolet store if the Z71 is shown. Chevrolet says the base LS with front-wheel drive will cost $38,995, including delivery. When AWD is added, the price goes up to $40,995, and more than $3,000 has been added to the price.

Fully equipped ’24 RS cars start at $55,595 for front-wheel drive and go up by $2,000 for all-wheel drive. The price has gone up by more than $8,600 since the last RS trim. There could be stickers everywhere.
