The CEO of Lotus Group, Feng Qingfeng, thinks that electric cars don’t have to be dull. “We’re reinventing electric driving with our sports car pedigree and cutting-edge technology.”
We’ve also learned that electric cars can be very exciting when they’re well-made. However, driving one can be very expensive. The Lotus Emeya’s price has been made public, and this will likely be the company’s first attempt to sell an electric car.
Yes, the Emeya is a high-performance car. It has 905 hp and 725 lb-ft of torque, and it can go from 0 to 60 mph almost as quickly as the Koenigsegg Gemara. With this level of performance, the development costs will undoubtedly go up. But how much will It cost people who want to buy it?
Lotus has only announced prices for the UK and EU markets to stay true to its British roots. Still, these prices let people in the US know what to expect. The Emeya line will have three trim levels. The base model will cost €106,4000, which is about $116,000.
That’s more than a Tesla Model S Plaid and a lot less than most Porsche Taycan coupes. The Emeya GT will cost €126,950, which is about $138,500. The flagship Emeya R starts at €150,990, which is more than $165,000.
Lotus added some more details about Emeya’s charging options to this price release. Thanks to better cell wrapping, the 102-kWh battery pack has a 20% longer range. Lotus also says that a 350-kW DC fast charger can charge it from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes.
Overall, Lotus has a range of 379 miles, but this number is based on the less strict WLTP cycle. Lotus says the aerodynamic design, which has a drag value of 0.21, is just as important for range as the battery technology.
It looks like Lotus is determined to offer some of the best driving gear for a very high price. Rear-wheel steering, active roll control, an electronically controlled air suspension, and carbon-ceramic brakes are all part of the Emeya’s dynamic design.
The inside is also very luxurious, with a 15.1-inch Lotus Hyper OS entertainment system, an augmented reality head-up display, and five massage modes with three different levels of strength built into the seats. Just like on a Rolls-Royce, power-assisted doors come standard. However, Lotus doesn’t say if umbrellas are included.
The Emeya will initially come in six colors: Kaimu Grey, Fireglow Orange, Solar Yellow, Akoya White, and Stellar Black. Early Emeya cars are now on sale in China, where Lotus’ parent company, Geely, is based. European buyers will be able to get their hands on them this fall.
Lotus has said in the past that the Emeya will be sold all over the world, but the company has yet to say when exactly the model will be offered in the US. With its high price, Lotus certainly competes with Porsche’s Taycan in terms of market share. It may come in second place among a small group of wealthy buyers.
