Some people don’t think electric cars (EVs) can be as fun to drive as a strong V-8 or a tight V-6. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N was made to change their minds. Yes, it still tries to imitate a lot of the physical sensations that come with running an internal combustion engine. For example, it simulates shifting gears and making engine noise. We were happy with how things turned out, though, and left the meeting happy.
The Ioniq 5 N is just a rubber meeting road, even after all the lines of code that were used to make functions like “N Drift Optimizer” and “N Torque Distribution” work. The Ioniq 5 N is built on a base that has won awards, so it has all the makings of a car that can do everyday tasks and also be fun to drive when it’s time to do so.
There was only one question left: how much would it cost? Value isn’t always taken into account when judging a car’s total appeal, but we do. An official statement from the company, on the other hand, says that the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N will cost $67,475 to buy. It gives you 641 horsepower for less than $70,000.
The horsepower number only shows up for short periods when the “N Grin Boost” mode is turned on. This is another clever software trick that the Ioniq 5 N has. The two electric motors make 601 horsepower when they’re not in use. That’s about 100 more horsepower than a regular Corvette Stingray, but it costs about $1,000 less and has more space for passengers.
However, dealer markups on the Ioniq 5 N could make it less valuable, even more so if, as is most likely, it turns out to be a low-volume car. The Ioniq 5 N will likely have a big ADM on the window sticker if a lot of people want to buy this powerful electric SUV. I hope that there is enough trouble in the market. Please buy a lot of these because they are the most exciting EVs on the market right now.
