Polestar just broke away from its parent company, Volvo. It is now navigating a new EV market with a limited and not very cheap model lineup while also fixing some problems within the company. After a delivery charge of $1,400, the 2025 Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor with Pilot Pack will start at $74,800. This is because prices were lowered in March. The all-wheel-drive car will have 489 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque. The battery is said to last for 315 miles. A head-up monitor, pilot assist, park assist, and lane change assist are all part of the Pilot Pack. Invoice Pricing in Australia says that the company’s global head of marketing told reporters at a recent event that a rear-wheel-drive three would be available in other countries later this year.

Information about what’s coming will be shared “a few months from now when the time comes to launch” because business leaders aren’t likely to give away many details. So far, the technical data we have shows that the rear motor is the same as the e-motor, which in the Long Range Dual Motor trim makes 241 horsepower. Polestar is still using the 111-kWh battery pack in cars with two motors as well.

The Polestar 3, despite being slightly larger than the Tesla Model Y, falls within a higher price range. Positioned between Ford and Tesla rivals on the lower end and Mercedes and BMW competitors on the higher end, the Polestar 3’s pricing is a crucial factor to consider. The base Rivian R1S, a larger SUV with three rows of seats, is priced at $100 more than the newer, less expensive 3 model, further highlighting the Polestar 3’s competitive pricing.

The Tesla Model Y starts at $46,000 for the Long Range RWD trim and has a battery that can go about 320 miles. The Ford Mustang Mach-E starts at around $50,000 for the Premium trim and has an extended-range battery. Both of these prices are before any possible tax credits and are about the same as the Polestar 3 RWD. The name Rivian should also be known.

Polestar might hear good news about that. The first cars that hit dealer lots this quarter were made in Chengdu, China. This means that people who buy them will not be able to get the $7,500 federal tax credit. The only way to get the credit is to lease the 3. The car company says that production of the three will start in the US “in the middle of 2024.” Early production tests at the Ridgeville, South Carolina, plant look like they’re done, so people who are willing to wait a few months may be able to get the Polestar for less than the MSRP.
