People will almost certainly look at more than one of the three new Polestar 3 electric SUVs because they are all high-end, two-row midsize electric SUVs. The Polestar 3 is bigger than the Tesla Model Y, which is easy for most people to get, and about the same size as the 2026 Rivian R2. You can get the 2025 Polestar 3 for about the same price as a midsize luxury SUV, electric or not. The Tesla, on the other hand, is a shockingly good deal. The base model with rear-wheel drive costs $45,380 before any tax breaks (every Model Y is qualified for the $7,500 Federal EV tax credit), and the base model with all-wheel drive and Long Range costs $50,380. When it comes out in 2026, the Rivian will start at $45,000, but that price could go up.
For the 2024 model year, the Polestar 3 is only offered in Launch Edition models. The dual-motor Long Range model starts at $80,300, and the Performance package model costs $86,300. Polestar has released the MSRPs for the 2025 model year 3s, which are the first in their regular line of electric SUVs that aren’t part of the Launch Edition.
A delivery fee of $1,400 is added to the base price of $74,800 for the 2025 Polestar 3. For that price, you can get a Long-Range model with a 315-mile range. It has two motors that give it 489 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the Tesla and Rivian R2, Polestar’s cheapest model has all-wheel drive. In addition, all Polestar 3 types use the same 111-kWh battery that can be charged up to 250 kW.
Still, the base Polestar 3 costs more than $25,000 more than the Model Y Dual Motor Long Range, which has a range of 310 miles and is very identical. The Polestar 3 with the Performance package costs more than the Tesla Model Y Performance model, which costs $80,800. It is the next level up and costs more. With 517 horsepower, 671 lb-ft of torque, and 279 miles of range, the 3 Performance choice is the same as the Model Y Performance. The 3’s rolling stock has been changed. It now has 22-inch forged aluminum wheels, “Swedish Gold” accents all over, and a better suspension setting.
The Polestar 3 comes in two different versions. For an extra $5,500, you can get the Plus package, which includes a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, wool seats, 21-inch wheels, and heated back seats. Before, the Pilot suite of Lidar- and camera-based safety gear was an extra $5,000 option for the Launch Edition Polestar 3s. It is now standard on all 2025 model-year cars.
How much does the Polestar 3 cost? Yes, but Polestar will give you a $7,500 lease bonus, even though it doesn’t qualify for the same Federal EV tax credits. During a recent test drive of a prototype, we also noticed that it’s much sportier than the average two-row luxury SUV. We called the Polestar’s behavior “Porsche-like,” which means that even though it’s supposed to compete with the cheaper Tesla Model Y and Rivian R2, it will actually be more of a threat to Porsche’s future Macan EV, which costs at least $80,450.
