Volkswagen’s first attempt at making an electric hot hatch is the ID.3 GTX. The fast EV comes in two different styles and is very similar to the Cupra Born VZ. The regular GTX and the GTX Performance, which are VW’s most powerful electric motors ever, are the two types.

Keep going with the basic ID.3 GTX. Its electric motor on the back axle produces 282 horsepower and 402 pound-feet of torque. VW will increase the power to 322 horsepower if you choose the Performance type, but the torque will stay the same. As expected, these higher production numbers are very close to the Cupra Born VZs.

The rear-wheel-drive hot car needs six seconds to go from a stop to 60 mph, while the GTX Performance only needs 5.6 seconds. The top speed limit is set electronically at 111 and 124 mph. VW says the stronger type is an electric addition to the Golf GTI Clubsport, which is a front-wheel-drive car.

The lithium-ion battery pack in both GTXs gives them 79 kilowatt hours of power. It can be charged at 175 kW DC. From 10% to 80%, it takes about 26 minutes to fully charge the battery. The ID.3 GTX cars should be able to go 373 miles on a single charge in the combined WLTP test. The battery is placed in the middle of the car’s floor to make the weight more evenly distributed.

VW made the front bumper of the ID.3 GTX better by giving it a diamond-shaped shape and a bigger air intake. It also did this for the ID.4 and ID.5 GTX. For daytime running lights, boomerang-shaped LEDs were put on both sides of the hood. This version’s rear diffuser is shiny black, which goes well with the dark window frame, side sills, and mirror caps. New 20-inch wheels with 215-section tires come with the GTX, while bigger 235-section tires come with the GTX Performance.

Inside, there are many red details. You can get upholstery made from recycled materials, GTX badges, and sports seats that can be adjusted automatically and have built-in headrests. Each ID will have a new infotainment system with a 12.9-inch screen and a special lever on the steering column for choosing the driving mode. 3. The switches for the air conditioning and sound are now lit up, like the new Golf Mk8.5. It’s better to be late than never.

We have yet to make plans for the ID.3 GTX to come to the US. That being said, in Europe, it will mostly fight with the Cupra Born VZ in a two-car class. It’s clear that the MG4 XPower is a threat, but that car has two motors, all-wheel drive, and 429 horsepower. Two smaller EVs that deserve attention are the Alpine A290, which will be released soon, and the Abarth 500e. A John Cooper Works (JCW) version of the new electric Mini Cooper 3-Door will also be shown off before the end of the year.

VW has already made it clear that the all-electric ninth-generation Golf will replace the ID.3 because the range doesn’t have room for both. The German business wants to keep the three letters that make the name unique so that the GTX will become the GTI. One of its new logos has a lightning bolt in place of the word “I,” which stands for “injection.”
