There is a new chapter in the saga of the enigmatic and iconic $25,000 Tesla. Elon Musk’s proclamation that the $25,000 Tesla EV will be the pinnacle of the company’s offerings has sparked a wave of anticipation. The strategy is simple yet ambitious-start with the Model S, a coveted luxury car, and let its success pave the way for more affordable models, culminating in the $25,000 Tesla that promises to be within everyone’s reach.

The plan may seem straightforward, but its execution is yet to be seen. Musk’s statement during a 2022 Q3 earnings call that the reported $25,000 Tesla would debut on a new platform was met with cautious optimism. However, in early 2024, Musk’s admission, ‘Certainly, I say things that should be taken with a grain of salt because I am optimistic,’ cast a shadow of doubt on the timeline. The future of the $ 25,000 Tesla remains uncertain.

On the same call, Musk did say that Tesla planned to begin making cars on its new platform, which will include the “affordable” model, in “late 2025.” Musk confirmed a production date for the car that he has been predicting since 2020 during the same call. He also tells everyone to be skeptical of what he says. What’s going on?

An anonymous insider at Tesla told Reuters that the company announced the end of the $25,000 model during an employee meeting in February 2024, which made things even more confusing. On X, Musk said that Reuters was “lying,” but he didn’t say which part of the story was false, which suggests that Musk thought the whole thing was false.

For the sake of argument, let’s believe Musk when he says that Reuter has the wrong information. His ads for this $25,000 Tesla have been going on for a long time. What’s the truth? During an investor call in Q2 2024, Musk gave another update, saying that the production schedule for the new platform had been pushed back.

Musk said on the conference call, “We’ve updated our future vehicle lineup to speed up the launch of new models ahead.”Instead of the second half of 2025, as was first it is our intention to begin production sometime in the early years of 2025, if not later this year.

Why can Tesla speed up the production plan for the new platform? Musk says that one reason for this is that some parts of the current models will be used in the new ones. Musk says, “These new vehicles, including more affordable models, will use aspects of our current platforms as well as aspects of the next-generation platform.”

Because we can build on the same lines as our current line of cars, we won’t need a big new plant or production line. Our present production lines will be able to make it much more quickly.

Given how “optimistic” this news seems, we’re going to take Musk’s advice and move slowly. As an aside, we’re all for more affordable car choices on the market, so maybe Tesla can make the $25,000 model a reality instead of just a dream.
